FAQs

Q: Will I get a wetsuit to use or bring my own?

A: All equipment is provided by the surf school but if you have your own it is your choice.

Q: I've never surfed or SUP boarded before do I need to be able to swim?

A: It helps to swim a little and they may require you to be able to swim for 50mtrs however you should only ever be in the shallows and you will be with your group.

Q: How safe is it?

A: All the surf instructors are fully qualified and experienced growing up in the seas around Hayle and St.Ives. In addition you need to be a lifeguard to get your Surf Instructors Qualification.

Q: What if I don't want to surf or SUP board?

A: You can still enjoy the bubbles and sunset on the beach and we will bring the Hamper to you if you are in St.Ives or Hayle.

My name is Chris, and I have been given the opportunity to buy the Tack House. As a very recent purchase my family and myself, who live in and around St.Ives, look forward to up-holding the memories and special times the Tack House has brought to so many people over the years. As a unique part of Hayle's history the Tack House offers the feeling of a well-loved house in a tranquil setting.

The Tack House was originally the tack house for the horses and carriages of the Foundry estate, and has since been restored into a beautiful one bedroom retreat available for holiday lets throughout the year.

Tucked away down a hidden lane,  nestled in the quiet confines of this area of protected, historical beauty, the Tack House is in a peaceful setting with its own private gardens perfect for summer evening BBQs or relaxing on the lounge chairs, getting lost in a good book or painting your masterpiece. Inside, set against the old granite hath,  you'll find a cosy log burner for snuggling up on colder nights.

What people say...

'We had a fantastic time staying at The Tack House. a super cosy stay even with a few days of bad weather. Loved the close proximity to St Ives and the easy walk into Hayle and to the beach. Would recommend the local DVD hire place pm the walk into Hayle, great for an evening in.

Thanks so much!'

'The Tack House is such a lovely little place to stay!

We took our Dog who is medium to large in size with us- he loved it!

The Tack House has everything you need for a wonderful stay, it is close by to some gorgeous beaches; PorthKidney Sands and Gwithian Towans Beach were firm favourites, and walking distance to lots of lovely dog friendly places to eat too! With a decking area, and grass area which are both fenced in, it is perfect for couples wanting to bring their dog along.

This quaint little house is ideally placed for the perfect holiday, we loved it so much, we hope to visit again soon!

Thank you- Gemma, Liam and Vinnie 🐾'

'The Tack House is perfect in every way! It was lovely to be able to bring Ed our dog away and I think he has enjoyed himself as much as we have.

An ideal location to explore Cornwall and we will return home well rested and relaxed and looking forward to returning soon.

Goliath Falls near Bodmin is well worth a visit too!

Only complaint; it has been too warm to have the log burner on that much!

With many thanks,

Paul, Marie & Ed (the dog)

'The Tack House - wow! What a lovely place to stay and explore Cornwall. Lovely, peaceful, small and compact - the perfect place to unwind. Thank you. Hopefully back in a couple of years' - Alan, Di and Pepper the dog!

'Especially nice touch that we received a text saying welcome too and hope that everything was OK. It was perfect' Ian

The minute you arrive at the Tack House it is immediately apparent that the owner cares that you have a great holiday. The simply laid out garden is an equal mix of decking and grass, perfect for both dogs and humans and is a wonderful sun trap for relaxing and soaking up the rays. The cottage itself, is compact and wonderfully thought out with lovely touches in abundance. Flowers, real coffee and a bottle of wine greeted me, a stocked wood basket near the fire in case warmth was needed, beach towels (didn't need them unfortunately) and even some dog chews in the cupboard, confirming that 'man's best friends' are indeed, very welcome. The comprehensive information folders are rammed with local maps, leaflets of exciting visits to be made and useful contact numbers for local amenities or the unthinkable emergency. The downstairs bedroom and adjoining shower room are equally delightfully simple, cosy and, yet again, well thought out with some lovely details. Everything in the cottage makes sense including the warm fuzzy feeling you get when you immediately realise that you're going to have a great week.

'We absolutely loved our week staying at The Tack House... such a cute cosy place just a moments walk from the estuary leading to the beautiful beaches and also just around the corner from the little town (Salt Bar is a fab place to eat/drink, some lovely little coffee shops & independent stores all very friendly) A great place for dog friendliness too... most places let them in & most of the beaches they're allowed too! If not the coastal path is just up the dunes. The walk to see the seals at Godrevy is beautiful - helped by good cafes en route. The owner has thought of all the simple pleasures and on arrival we were greeted with fresh coffee, wine, shortbread, milk in the fridge, toiletries etc. Beautifully decorated and dressed to a high standard. Although August we did put the log burner on one eve which was delightful (even wood was supplied in the basket). Morning sun rose on the large decking area, perfect space for a bit of yoga! Followed by coffee and breakfast... comfy sun loungers also provided. Thank you so much for a lovely stay. We will definitely be back.' Andrea & Ian

'We have loved our stay at The Tack House and will come back again. It’s a beautiful little place with everything you need and in quiet surroundings. It is a short walk to the lovely sandy beach which our dog has loved and all the shops
When we got back from our walks there’s the log burner to warm us up.
Lydia has been so helpful and checked if we needed anything. Xx'

Just outside the famous St Ives, Hayle is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. From the Tack House it is just a short walk to Hayle beach, at low tide, the golden sands stretch three miles all the way to Godrevy and its protected light house.

Also close by is the super beautiful Phillack beach, Mexico and Lelant Downs which remains dog friendly all year round.

Gwithian is a famous surfing spot and you'll find a fabulous vibe on every stretch of sand that you explore. There are several new bars and restaurants that sit overlooking St.Ives bay.

St Ives is a short drive or an easy train ride away and is absolutely beautiful.

This vibrant town with its stunning beaches and historic harbour are famous for a reason. Meander through the quirky streets, explore the art galleries and shops - it's a lovely way to spend a day!

You can see St Ives from Hayle beach and it always seems to be basking in sunshine! It's quite a view!

Hayle is a small town and world heritage site with lots of history and plenty to do and see. Perfectly located close to St Ives and Penzance. It is also convenient for the train and just 45 minutes from Newquay airport.
